Amber Nicole Thurman was a young, twenty-eight-year-old Black American woman, mother to a child, when she died in Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia, in 2022. Thurman’s death was preventable, as she only needed a fifteen-minute dilation and curettage procedure to cure her infection. The doctors refused to perform it because of Georgia’s abortion ban that forbade gynecological procedures associated with pregnancy and maternity.
